In this class I have learn much the importance of writing within the field of engineering. From thorough descriptions to developing the audience I am targeting. I have gathered many elements that will provide a better perspective in the engineering field while also improving my writing skills. From being able to figure out why I am writing hoping to accomplish to being clear on what I write. The various techniques learned has helped me explore how to further my writing.
When working in a project or proposal the audience is something that plays a huge part on the focus, who am I grabbing into and why? When working in the technical description it was brought to light on the audience I was appealing. How would the device affect the audience and why do they need it? Thinking of this made me go more deeply into what a marketer thinks and the importance of the audience in mind. I had to work around this, not only talking about the either the engineering proposal or technical description but on the topic that is being written about. I have to figure out why I write of this topic what do I hope to accomplish writing this. It was being able to inform the audience of where I stand and why. I am here to introduce my motivation for writing. To find a way to specifically communicate with them.
Another learning outcome would be on the social aspects as I am not really one to talk a lot especially socialize it was something I was not used to. In the engineering proposal I had to talk to by groupmates on how to progress and the workload for each individual. Being able to express my opinion while also receiving criticism was a different perspective when writing as we had to communicate our thoughts and on how to organize. When working on the proposal me and my groupmates brainstormed ideas, continuous glucose monitor system was picked as one of my groupmates has personal experience with it and was something that intrigued us. From there we worked a schedule of when work would be done and who would send the work.
Something else in the learning outcomes would be the enhance strategies for reading, drafting, revising, editing, and self-assessment. From the readings presented by the professor it gave insight on how to revise and edit. Talking about how we needed to primarily focus on the big agendas first like if the message is being presented clearly. Stuff like periods and commas came last to not be concern on while working on my writing. I was someone who would mostly work on my punctuation primarily and would fix writing issues if I stumble across it. But after this lesson I learned not only on being sure my message is clear but if my sentences make sense and if the audience can understand.
Writing goals is something I have while I do not really push to achieve it, it is something I have on mind. I want to be able to clearly present my voice to others, working in the organization of my thoughts. Something else would be the right punctuation when writing, I feel like I have not utilized them correctly or could bring more impact. These goals connected to the audience is on how they would be able to view my work and if there are able to understand it. Expectations are something everyone has and comes in various forms but being able to grab their attention is something me as a writer has to do. Me as a writer has to convey my purpose and message to the audience clearly as they are reading my work with a specific purpose from being interested in the genre to wanted to argue on the topic, I am here to provide information.
This statement can be move into formulating and articulate a stance through and in your writing being clear on my position or what I am providing is something I have been working on. Standing on where I write will allow the audience to show my motivation in writing Crafting my message either being positive or negative. Demonstrating my position to the audience. Figuring out who are my audience is something that will help provide my standing in writing which would be able to specially target the audience.
The strengthen of my sources with practice was something that also allowed me to further develop my sophistication in my writing. It allowed me to organize my writing and not get lost on who said who. Being able to learn new methods makes me as a writer grow as these resources will create my in-depth thoughts and organization. Quoting was something I did a lot but the way I did it was repetitive but I figured out there are various ways to do it where I had to learn. Pairing this with citing sources allow there to a connection between my message and the words of professional have the voices of two people. Summarizing and paraphrasing was not something I would usually do but have done but being able to learn of the importance of it was a way to finish my ideas and using the words of others into my work. From researchers to technicians, I was able to incorporate their work into my studies.
These various learning outcomes have had huge development in my work and projects, it is for these I was able to find a way to present my purpose of writing these papers and conveying a message within the it. The feedback I would receive was something I was shy of but now have taken it with pride as it will help me develop my writing. The techniques I have read and listened to on the importance of being detailed also has a huge part of being clear to my audience. As the audience has a reason to be my paper but the reason will vary.
